Our Goal
According to the World Health Organization, over 285 million people around the world are visually impaired, and an additional 39 million are completely blind. These individuals struggle with common day to day tasks, such as finding objects and navigating in new locations. To combat this, our team, John P. Stevens High School’s “The WarHawks,” hopes to address the challenges that the visually impaired face by designing an innovative device that would assist in maintaining optimal mental and physical conditions to overcome societal limitations and navigate unfamiliar environments.
Learn Mode
Create and modify a private library of unique objects specific to your environment. Using the VisualEyes app, add images of such objects and personalize your VisualEyes experience to fit your individual needs. This feature is currently under further development.
Customization
In order to account for the various levels of experiences and severity of your visual impairment, VisualEyes offers a variety of customization options. Select and modify your guidance features to better align with your everyday use, and customize the aesthetics of the hat itself by choosing from different sizes, colors, and other additional accessories.
VisualEyes App
Download the VisualEyes App to receive text to speech narration and audio cues to safely guide you to your destination. The app also provides you access to the aforementioned technical customization options and the learn mode feature. Downloading the app is also necessary for the initial set up of the device.
